Peer Review Process

Common Senses: Social & Humanities Journal applies a double-anonymous peer review process to ensure the scholarly quality, integrity, and impartiality of published manuscripts.

All submitted manuscripts undergo an initial editorial assessment before being sent for peer review. The editorial team evaluates the manuscript's alignment with the journal's focus and scope, originality, scholarly contribution, basic methodological and academic quality, and compliance with the journal's submission requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are assigned to two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. Both reviewer and author identities are concealed throughout the review process. Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts objectively and provide constructive comments concerning the manuscript's scholarly contribution, theoretical or conceptual foundation, methodology or analytical approach, interpretation of findings, and overall quality.

Review Process

The standard editorial process consists of the following stages:

1. Submission
The manuscript is submitted through the journal's online submission system.

2. Technical Screening
The editorial team checks the manuscript for completeness, formatting, anonymization, ethical declarations, references, and other submission requirements.

3. Editorial Screening
The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor assesses the manuscript's relevance to the journal's scope, scholarly potential, originality, and suitability for peer review.

4. Peer Review
The manuscript is evaluated by two independent external reviewers under the double-anonymous review model.

5. Editorial Decision
Based on the reviewers' reports and the editor's assessment, the manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

• Accept
• Minor Revision
• Major Revision
• Reject

The editor retains responsibility for the final editorial decision. Reviewer recommendations are an important part of the decision-making process but do not automatically determine the final outcome.

6. Revision
When revisions are required, authors must respond to reviewer comments and submit a revised manuscript within the period specified by the editor. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

7. Acceptance and Production
Once a manuscript has successfully completed the review and editorial process, it receives an acceptance decision and proceeds to copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and final production.

8. Continuous Publication
Accepted manuscripts are published individually online after completing the production process. Common Senses publishes continuously throughout the year within one volume per year, so articles do not need to wait for the completion of an issue or a scheduled publication batch.

Review and Publication Standards

Common Senses aims to maintain an efficient review and publication process while preserving scholarly rigor. The journal's current service targets are:

These timelines are service targets rather than guarantees, as the actual duration may vary depending on reviewer availability, manuscript complexity, revision requirements, and author responsiveness.

Reviewer Confidentiality and Ethical Conduct

Reviewers must treat all manuscripts received for review as confidential documents. They should not disclose, reproduce, use, or distribute manuscript content or information obtained through the review process without permission.

Reviewers are also expected to:

• provide objective and constructive assessments;
• declare any potential conflict of interest;
• maintain confidentiality throughout the review process;
• avoid using unpublished information for personal or professional advantage; and
• notify the editor if they are unable to provide a timely or appropriate review.

Editorial Independence

Peer review and editorial decisions are based on the scholarly quality, relevance, originality, and contribution of the manuscript. Publication fees, author affiliation, institutional background, nationality, gender, religion, or other personal characteristics must not influence editorial decisions.
