Correction and Retraction Policy
Common Senses: Social & Humanities Journal is committed to maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the published scholarly record. When errors or ethical concerns are identified after publication, the journal will assess the matter and take appropriate action.
Corrections
A Correction may be issued when a published article contains an error or omission that affects the accuracy or clarity of the article but does not invalidate its main findings, arguments, or scholarly contribution.
Corrections may include, where appropriate:
- factual or typographical errors;
- errors in author information or affiliations;
- errors in tables, figures, or other published material; or
- other errors that can be corrected without substantially affecting the article's validity.
A correction notice will clearly describe the change and be linked to the original article. The original article will remain accessible as part of the scholarly record.
Expression of Concern
An Expression of Concern may be issued when the journal has substantial concerns about the reliability or integrity of a published article, but the available information is insufficient to justify a correction or retraction.
An Expression of Concern may remain in place while the journal seeks clarification or while an investigation by the relevant author, institution, or other appropriate body is ongoing.
The notice will be clearly linked to the article concerned.
Retractions
A Retraction may be issued when a published article is found to contain serious problems that substantially compromise its reliability or integrity.
Reasons for retraction may include:
- substantial plagiarism or inappropriate text reuse;
- fabrication or falsification of data or findings;
- serious methodological or analytical errors that invalidate the main conclusions;
- duplicate or redundant publication;
- serious authorship or ethical violations;
- undisclosed conflicts of interest that materially affect the work; or
- other circumstances that substantially undermine the integrity of the published article.
A retracted article will normally remain available with a clear retraction notice and an indication that the article has been retracted. The article will not be silently removed from the scholarly record.
Retraction Process
When a potential problem is identified, the editorial team will assess the concern and may request explanations or supporting information from the authors and, where appropriate, relevant institutions or other parties.
The journal will make decisions based on the available evidence and applicable publication ethics principles. Where necessary, the journal may follow relevant COPE guidance when determining whether a correction, Expression of Concern, or retraction is appropriate.
Authors may be contacted and given an opportunity to respond to concerns before a post-publication decision is made, except where immediate action is necessary to protect the integrity of the scholarly record.
Post-Publication Integrity
Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions are part of the journal's commitment to maintaining a transparent and trustworthy scholarly record. All post-publication notices will be clearly identified, dated, and linked to the affected article.
